Our body can produce vitamin D when we get in contact with ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun. This is a fat soluble vitamin. Our exposure to sun is essential for the synthesis of vitamin D in our skin. However, we can get it from varieties of foods as well.

Vitamin D Functions

Typically, vitamin D has different variations. Some of them are active in nature, whereas some are not. For example, calciferol is the most active variation of vitamin D. Our liver and kidney help in converting vitamin D to its most essential hormone variety. When we consume vitamin D from our diet or we produce it in our skin, vitamin D needs to be converted into 1, 25 dihydroxyvitamin D, which is the most active physiological variety of vitamin D. The activated vitamin D functions like a hormone by sending neural messages to the intestine in order to boost up the assimilation of phosphorous and calcium.

Vitamin D functions by maintaining a balance of calcium and phosphorous in the blood level. By enhancing calcium absorption, vitamin D aids in developing and preserving bone strength. Vitamin D functions in addition to other helpful nutrients to enhance bone mineralization. To keep the bone structure firm and strong, vitamin D is a must need nutrient. Without the presence of vitamin D, our bones become thin and fragile. A deficiency in vitamin D may cause rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults. These are two types of bone disorder in which bones become weaker.

Long term restricted breast feeding practice without proper vitamin D supplementation may lead in developing reemergence of rickets. A decrease in outdoor activity and insufficient sun exposure may also trigger in developing rickets in infants.

Vitamin D functions at cellular level as well. It manages cell development and differentiation. It also aids in maintaining healthy immune system.

Some scientific studies also suggest that potential vitamin D functions like a protective shield against various forms of cancer, however, more clinical trials are needed to determine its actual relevance.

Vitamin D functions as an integral supplement in treating Alzheimer’s patients. It is due to the fact that these patients lack outdoor activities, so their natural level vitamin D synthesis may get hampered.

Vitamin D Natural Sources

Fortified foods can be considered as one of the wise vitamin D natural source. During 1930s, rickets was a primary health complication in US and it turned out as an epidemic. By that time, a milk fortification program was implemented to fight against rickets. This implementation was a success and it nearly eradicated this complication in the US . Nearly 98-99% milk is fortified with vitamin D supplements in the US . However, milk derivatives such as cheese and ice creams are not fortified as it is with milk. So these products contain only a small amount of vitamin D in it.

Our mother nature is generous in vitamin D natural source. There are wide varieties of natural foods that contain vitamin D in it. These are cod liver oil, salmon, mackerel, tuna fish, sardines, egg, beef liver, and many others. We can easily avail vitamin D from cheese and pudding prepared from fortified milk.

Sun exposure can be considered as the most important vitamin D natural source. It offers us plenty amount of vitamin D that we actually need for our body. Ultraviolet rays from the sun activate the synthesis of vitamin D in our skin area. The intensity of sunlight, humidity, season, smog, cloud and geographical latitude affect vitamin D synthesis in our body. We all need to expose ourselves to the sunlight in order to receive benefits from vitamin D synthesis.

Potential Health Risk

There is potential health risk associated with the excessive usage of vitamin D supplements. The adverse effects may include poor appetite, nausea, constipation, vomiting, weakness and weight loss. It can also boost up calcium levels in the blood stream causing various psychological complications such as confusion, depression and irritation.

All About Natural Vitamin

The word “vitamins” is derived from the two words, “Vital” and “Amines”. These are the complex organic substance required in small quantities for nutrition. Foods are the main source of vitamins. These are also produced by the body. Human body requires vitamins to work properly and grow and develop just the way one should. The deficiency in vitamins may result in several serious disorders.

Usually vitamins are categorized in to two major groups namely, fat soluble vitamins and water soluble vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins are known as vitamin A, D, E and K. Vitamin C and the groups of molecules referred to as the vitamin B complex are grouped in to water soluble vitamins. Each group plays a special role in the development of the human body.

a) Vitamin A

This fat-soluble vitamin plays a major role in eyesight and helps in seeing in dim light and in night. The vitamin is very important in formation and maintenance of healthy skin, hair and mucous membranes. It also helps in bone development, reproduction, tooth development and development of epithetical cells.

b) Vitamin B

It is a complex of different vitamins such as B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, folic acid, biotin and pantohenic acids. Vitamin B plays an important role in metabolic activity. It facilitates formation of red blood cells. Vitamin B also facilitates your body to produce a good amount of energy and protein.

c) Vitamin C

Also known as ascorbic acid, this vitamin is water soluble and an antioxidant. It is extremely important for the production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that provides good structure to bones, cartilage, muscle and blood vessels. The vitamin is very important to keep certain body tissues in good shape such as gums and muscles. It also helps in protecting certain fat soluble such as vitamins A and E and fatty acids from oxidation.

d) Vitamin D

It is a fat soluble that regulates the formation of bone as well as the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the intestine. This vitamin is required for healthy bones and both.

e) Vitamin E

It is a fat soluble vitamin. It helps in oxidation inhibition in body tissues and blood cell formation. It prevents break down of body tissues. It also maintains the body tissues and protects lungs from becoming damaged by pollution in the environment.

These days, it seems like we are always turning to science to give us the answers to our problems. When it comes to nutrition, the answer is often a vitamin supplement. But do we really need them?

As it happens, vitamins and minerals are plentiful in a balanced diet. By eating the right foods to get a complete range of nutrients, you may be able to give up those daily tablets after all. A natural vitamin is best.

Vitamin A – It’s at the beginning of the alphabet so why not start there. Also known as retinol, vitamin A affects your vision, skin, bone growth, immune system and reproductive functions. It’s easy to find in a variety of foods; just remember to think yellow! Good sources of natural vitamin A include carrots, mango, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and the decidedly un-yellow broccoli.

Vitamin B1 – This is more commonly known as thiamin. Your body uses it to control metabolism and ensure your nerves function properly. There are a wide range of foods containing this vital nutrient, including spinach, green peas, tomato juice, watermelon, sunflower seeds, pork and soy milk. Even the pickiest eater will find something that provides them with their daily dose of natural vitamin B1.

Vitamin B2 – You may know it as riboflavin. This one also works on your metabolism and promotes good vision and healthy skin. Some of the best sources for this natural vitamin are spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, eggs, milk, liver, oysters and clams.

Vitamin B3 – This is sometimes called niacin, and it’s also important for your metabolism, nervous system and immune system. You can find this natural vitamin in foods like spinach, potatoes, tomato juice, lean ground beef, chicken breast, tuna, liver and shrimp.

Vitamin B6 – This is a key nutrient to keep your blood cells healthy. To get more of it into your diet, try some of these natural vitamin sources: bananas, watermelon, tomato juice, broccoli, spinach, acorn squash, potatoes, white rice and chicken breast.

Vitamin B12 – This natural vitamin is used when your body makes new cells, and also helps to keep your nervous system working properly. You can get it from eating animal products like meats, poultry, fish, shellfish, milk and eggs. If you don’t eat animal products, you will probably need a vitamin supplement to make sure that you’re getting enough of this vital nutrient.

Vitamin C – When cold and flu season strikes, it is time to load up on this immune system builder. Vitamin C also plays lesser-known role in helping your body to absorb iron. Some of the best fruits and vegetables for stocking up on it are spinach, broccoli, red bell peppers, snow peas, tomato juice, black currants, kiwi fruits, mangos, oranges, grapefruits and strawberries.

Vitamin D – This one helps your body to absorb calcium, and may also play a role in maintaining strong muscles. While we can produce this vitamin ourselves by exposing our skin to sunlight, many people don’t make enough of it that way. Try supplementing your natural vitamin production with fortified milk, fatty fish, egg yolks and liver.

Vitamin E – It’s an antioxidant, so this natural vitamin helps to keep us from ageing too quickly. It also protects your cell membranes. You can find Vitamin E in polyunsaturated plant oils such as soybean, corn and canola oils, and also in wheat germ, sunflower seeds, tofu, avocado, sweet potatoes, shrimp and cod.

Vitamin K – You need this one to help your blood to clot. To make sure you’re getting enough, eat lots of Brussels sprouts, leafy green vegetables, spinach, broccoli, cabbage and liver.

The whole vitamin alphabet is important to keep you healthy and happy. Make sure that you eat a wide variety of vitamin-rich foods so that all of your nutritional needs are covered.

If you just can’t manage to get certain nutrients into your diet, there are supplements available. However, a well-balanced diet should provide you will everything you need for your body’s nutrition.

Freedom to life, liberty and security – these are your guaranteed Rights as promised in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, submitted by PM Pierre Elliot Trudeau in 1981. In 1996 and now in 2008 this Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is being sold out for pretended power and real financial profit with C 51 and C 52.

You have the power to Strike Down C 51 and C 52 by contacting your MP. Find out how to do that by clicking on the C 51 and C 52 link at the bottom.

C 51 And C 52 Will Harm Canadians

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) products, herbs, Natural Health Products (NHP) etc are enjoyed by millions of Chinese Canadians and native Canadians alike. TCM and NHP save’s lives and harms none: FACT.

C 51 And C 52 Will Cost Canadians $Millions

Your Members of Parliament (MPs) today are debating over spending $100s of millions of YOUR tax dollars on creating a Government bureaucracy for proven safe products and effective method of creating health.

Why?

MPs in the Canadian House of Parliament are spending $100,000s on trying to amend a totally unnecessary regulation of safe and proven TCM and NHP products.

Why?

The Hon Tony Clement, Minister of Health, the Minister who introduced Bill C 51 is covering up the fact that C 51 will take away your guaranteed right to freedom to life, liberty and security as given by the Charter of Rights. Note: Mr. Clement recently had to sell his 25% share in a Pharmaceutical company so as to avoid a major conflict of interest.

Why?

David K. Lee, Director, Office of Patented Medicines and Liaison, Health Canada. David claims to be looking out for Canadians interests, yet his entire mandate has been to regulate (ban) safe NHP by treating them as poisonous / toxic and dangerous drugs.

Why?

Pharmaceutical Drugs in Canada sent 1.7 Million people to the emergency room in 2007.

An International board of advisors reported yesterday that 12% of Emergency Room admittance at Vancouver General Hospital (usually requiring a bed), were caused by pharmaceutical drugs. Pharmaceuticals are dangerous.

Health Canada needs to do their job. They are NOT reducing pharmaceutical harm. Health Canada is not focusing on the existing damage they permit by giving easy access to dangerous pharmaceutical drugs.

Clearly the substances that need MORE regulation are pharmaceutical drugs and not NHP or TCM if one where interested in preventing unnecessary damage.

Taking Pharmaceutical Drugs Is Dangerous

TCM and NHP prevent or avoid the need to take any Pharmaceutical drug. Taking TCM and NHP is saving millions of Canadians unnecessary harm and damage created by Pharma drugs. Regulating TCM or NHP prevents the greatest number of benefits which could be enjoyed by free Canadians.

Comparing NHP And TCM With Drugs Is Like Comparing Tomatoes With Toxins

Food is being made to be treated as a dangerous, potentially toxic and harmful substance ie, a drug.

Why Regulate Safe Products?

Answer: To build a bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is the undue building up of groups to overwhelm the power of individual freedom. Bureau’s, becoming an entity in themselves, have their own survival at stake not yours.

Health Canada’s Directorate For NHP Is Pharmaceutically Based

Check out the list of stakeholders in this directorate, headed by David K. Lee. David K. Lee wrote C 51 in part. Let’s see if we can guess who wrote the rest of C 51, shall we? The stake holders of Health Canada’s Directorate is a Pharmaceutical Science board and made up of Pharmaceutical companies.

Short List of Pharmaceutical Companies / Associations:

1. Sandoz

2. Novopharm

3. Pharmascience

4. CGPA (Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association

Who’s your daddy?

Already Health Canada’s ‘Regulations’ Cause Canadian’s Deaths

Many Canadians have either suffered or died because of Health Canada interfering with otherwise safe NHP. That means Canadians have died because of interference by Health Canada.

Pharmaceutical Drugs in Canada sent 1.7 Million people to the emergency room in 2007.

The number of people dying from NHP in Canada = 0.
